Today I went for the second lecture of Innovation and Technology expecting to get answers for the budding curiosity of my mind. This week's lecture was conducted by Dr. Mohd Khalid and we were introduced to the concept of M-learning and E-learning. To better grasp the understanding of E-learning, first we have to dive into its definition and the concepts related to it. E-learning is a learning process where the main environment is heavily influenced by electronic media, typically the Internet. Meanwhile, M-learning is actually a subset under E-learning as it focuses its learning processes using mobile gadgets, which in this era, can be connected to the Internet. It is an extension of E-learning as it provides a portable space for users to use both E-learning and M-learning in their learning processes.
As a future teacher, it is crucial for me to know how to implement these learning techniques into my lesson plan. It is also important to note that using E-learning and M-learning require certain platforms like hardware (desktop, phone) and software (applications, system). Both of these learning techniques can't be implied if there is no implication of internet knowledge in the classroom. Therefore, I should put a significant reminder to myself, that to apply these learning techniques in my classroom, I have to take note of the possibility that some of my students might not lead a privileged enough life as they might find the concept of learning using forms of robots may be an alien concept to them. In my opinion, E-learning has one main benefit that triumph other learning techniques, in that, that it gives a sufficient space for introverted students to express their ideas without feeling the obligation to be shy about it. However, despite the fact that these learning techniques are the offspring of technology, which provide lots of benefits to both students and teachers such as it gives a more interactive classroom session between teachers and students, and students and students, we shall not deny that it also might be a form of classist technique as it caters more to students who are privileged enough to be fluent in technology. Therefore, as a future teacher, I shall find ways to implement technologies in my classroom, in a way that everyone can enjoy learning at the same rate. On the other hand, I has my first tutorial class with Dr. Fariza on Thursday. And I find it so awe-inspiring to be taught by such a gently fierce woman, who knows how to get around the classroom session with her knowledge of innovation and technology. I hope someday in the future, I shall find myself to reflect some of her actions in my own classroom as a teacher, because she is such a motivational person to look up to.

Hello everyone. Today we had our first lecture for this subject. We had two consecutive public holidays on Monday, hence enabling us from getting our fills of knowledge for this subject in the first two weeks. The first lecturer was Mejar Jasmy. He has a strict countenance, and was quite harsh towards students who were late. But that is a given, since most of the students who came in late, were really really late, and I understand that he was just trying to show us that discipline should be a teacher's highest virtue, through tough love.
Although he looks and acts considerably strict, he was actually a very nice and fun lecturer because he went through the lecture by giving us stories that teach us 1000 lessons. He briefly explained about the importance of technology in education by showing us various types of videos. He showed a video of a technology that combines skate with drone, which was very cool. From these videos, I understand that, as a teacher, I must find a way to combine education with technology so that my students can find amusement in learning. Eventhough Mejar Jasmy taught us about the importance of installing the use of technology in our educating techniques, he also reminded us the harms of depending too much on technology. Although we are living in 21st century, we should not give up our thinking skills, and depend 100% on technology to do the thinking for us. Innovation brings the meaning creating new methods, ideas or product to help making life to be a tad easy. We should use innovation and technology in our teaching methods so that our students can get the highest productive learning in the classroom, but not to an extent that it can jeopardize our morale. Overall, I found the lesson to be very fullfilling because I learned a few new things, besides getting valuable life lessons from Mejar Jasmy. :) |
