On Monday we had our last class ever for this subject. Our lecturer gave us some tips on the structure of final exam. I was so nervous because there were so much things to do and so little time for me to get them done. I hope I could go through this week with the smallest amount of emotional scars possible.
On Thursday, we had our last tutorial class with Dr. Fariza. It was a bitter sweet feeling because I really liked learning this subject with her because she gives me new perspectives on how to be a better teacher. But I was also kind of glad that this week had finally came to an end. Our video presentations and AR project were due to be shown on this day. I pulled an all-nighter with my groupmates, Zahidah and Ainul to finish these projects. I find our struggle to be a fruitful effort as we are all satisfied with what we had accomplished. The class started with the video presentations. I find the most interesting video to be Umairah's group. The video talks about the personal struggles that everyone has so abstractly. I find the messages to hit home because sometimes I feel swimming in the vast space of unknown, too tired to figure things out. I also like Amir's group's video because it was so beautifully cinematically shot. I love aesthetic shots. Then, we proceed with the AR presentation. At the end of the class, I find myself so amazed with the talent that my coursemates have in making learning a fun process for their students. They were so creative in using sources that are available to make AR and gamification a fun way to learn. I am so inspired by everyone's creativity. For my last fruit of thoughts for this subject, I hope that what I have learned throughout this journey is engraved to the deepest chamber of my heart and mind so that I can become a teacher who always challenge herself to always do better in being creative.

Web 2.0 is a term that describes the new era of world wide web. It refers to websites that emphasize user-generated contents, which makes it different from Web 1.0 which emphasizes on reading content only. In other words, Web 2.0 promotes the sense of crowd-funding, where everyone can play their part in any content that is shared online.
Web 2.0 services and technologies expand the learning options available to educators. For example, Wiki technology enables collaborative learning as users to collectively create, edit, link, and share web content. Google Docs allow the collaboration among students to do their work together without having to meet each other. Youtube is a technology that has be been up in the clouds for a few years already and has improved as the technology goes and creates a massive platform for web 2.0 in education as students now can acquire new knowledge through this site. Wikis, Blogs and similar Web 2.0 technologies provide a means for users to easily participate in the creation of new knowledge rather than consume pre-existing knowledge. These technologies also provide alternative assessment options for educators. The result is often a more engaging and collaborative teaching and learning experience. I think, as a future teacher, it is very important for me to be able to encorporate this new era of technology in my classroom, and not limit my dependence on physical teaching that includes only books and whiteboard. I should expand the horizon of my students' mind by being up to date with technology and include things they can learn from internet in my teaching. For example, instead of writing essays on the blankness of pages in notebooks, I could ask them to make a personal blog where they could share their thoughts to the world. It is very important for me to always be creative in my ways of teaching them so that they can find learning to be a fun process. This week we learned about the planning, analysis and strategy of media development. This is an important topic for us, future educators, to understand as it can help us create interesting learning materials for our students. Based on the slides notes, the planning of media development for teaching and learning consists of design, development, testing and evaluation.
The learning materials that we have developed have to have a few processes that make them more fun. The materials are active, constructive, cooperative, authentic and having a purpose. Creating fun and attractive learning materials is very important as it helps us to create a clear path for our students to learn without them getting distracted with how boring the learning session is. Today's lecture was conducted by Dr. Siti and we learned about Instructional Design. This is a new concept for me, as I have never encountered this term before in my path of becoming a teacher. An instructional design brings the meaning of central activity of teaching to help others through their instruction. This gives us the meaning of instructional designer, who is someone who carefully and thoughtfully created learning experiences. In other words, teachers are theoretically instructional designers as they create a learning experiences for their students through thought-out methods.
An easy way to apply instructional design in teaching method would be to follow the Model ID (ASSURE). 'A' stands for analyze learners as this is very important because we need to know our students' sociogeographic and access to technology. 'S' stands for state objectives. Objectives are very important in making it clear to us in what way do we want to conduct the class. 'S' also stands for select media. After getting to know our students better and be sure of our objectives, we should pick a media that is suitable to be used as teaching method in the classroom. Meanwhile 'U' stands for utilise materials. This aspect is very important because the materials that are needed should be enough for the learning process to be able to be held. Moving on to 'R', which stands for Require performance. This is the stage where we conduct our learning process for the students based on the previous letters. Last but not least, 'E', which stands for Evaluate and revise. After the learning process has been conducted, it is crucial for teachers to reflect and evaluate of what could be made better. In my opinion, I think the lesson that was taught today was crucial for me to understand the concept as it could help me to better understand my students, thus bringing the best methods to help clear their path of getting their cups of knowledge fulfilled. As a future teacher, I have come to the realization that I can never get rid of the concept of learning theories, as it has been following me since semester 1 of my freshman year. Today's lecture was conducted by Dr. Yusoff Daud. Throughly digesting the concept of learning theories is very important for me as a future educator as it helps me to identify my students' learning styles in which can help them learn better.
The first learning theory that is most familiar with most generations, is the Behaviorism. Behaviorism is a view in which behavior can be explained by external factors. In this theory, the ideas of positive and negative reinforcement help in peaking students' interest in learning as they can see the effects of their behavior hands on. The next one is Cognitivism, a theory developed by Jean Piaget in which a child develops cognitive pathways in understanding and physical response to experiences. This theory refers to the brain as the blackbox that has the ability to process and store information just like a computer. This theory believes that students learn more effectively through reading text and lecture instruction. I think this theory works the best with introverted students. The third one is Constructivism, a theory that focuses on learners using their previous experiences as a map for new informations to be digested into their minds when learning. In simpler words, people use what they already know to construct new meanings for informations that they are about to learn Last but not least is Connectivism, which is a relatively new learning theory, developed and based upon the idea that people process information by forming connections. This theory is the one that is most spot on when used with Gen-Z students as this generation of students depend on their knowledge of networking to make sense of the informations that they are learning about. Being a teacher means you will have the experience to meet every layer of the types of humans that roam on this earth. I will have to make myself ready to face the variety of students that will come to my path on their journey to quench their thirsts for knowledge. Innovation and Technology for Education has taught me to be creative in finding ways to make learning process a fun journey for my students. As we had no class for this week as well, here is some of my thoughts and prayers on becoming a teacher.
May I see my students through a lens that sees the flowers spurting in their minds, not just by what they can or cannot do. Understanding them better through this course is important for me, but I hope the bridge between understanding and applying could be smoother for me. May I be a teacher who does not discriminate because she is simply ‘tired’ to see the flowers that grow in the frames of her students’ minds. May this world be a joyful experience for my students, one that they can collect the petals of the flowers that have fallen, and write upon them their thoughts for their thoughts are the poetry for the upcoming generation. May I be a teacher who does not forget that it is humane to err, and to err is no excuse for me to not be humane. This week's lecture was cancelled for some reasons and I think it would be nice if I were to post a reflection that I wrote last semester about what I had learned in my psychology class.
"Today we learned about the humanistic learning theories. According to the slides, humanism emphasized human experience more than anything else. I think it is crucial for me to understand this better so that I can give my students a humanistic learning experience that is joyful. Humanism is a philosophy that focuses on individual and living qualities contributing to human prosperity. To each his own way of learning because every human being is unique. The way the learning process is conducted in classrooms nowadays is by seeing students not using a humanistic lens, but instead, seeing them as a product. If they get successful marks, then they will succeed. This is the common conception towards students. We train them as robots to achieve our own goals without thinking that they also have their own goals to accomplish. Therefore, it is important for me to understand the concept of humanism better through the ideas of Maslow and Rogers. According to Maslow, man’s need can be divided into two; basic need and growth need. Basic need is basically food, safety, love and self-esteem, whilst growth need compromises understanding, aesthetic values and self-actualisation. Self-actualisation is when one achieves his full capacity and dreams. Roger has his own ideas regarding humanism as he aimed to help people achieve health and wellbeing by providing a positive psychological climate. This involves active listening to attend purposefully to the meaning and intention of what another person is saying. He also proposed the concept of non-directive teaching which occurs when teacher acts as the facilitator who guides students and nurtures learning. The concept of humanism helps teachers to have a right aim which to enhance learner’ personal and emotional development within a caring and supportive learning environment. Strong advocates of humanist education believes that their aims cannot always be achieved in mainstream educational contexts. This further highlights the fact that we should give a significance value to our students’ personal and emotional development, instead of only focusing on their intellectual development." Here is a short message for Teacher Syasya: May you never stop being creative in finding the flowers that bloom in your students' minds. Our very own tutorial lecturer, Dr. Fariza was handed the stage to teach us about augmented reality today. Before heading to class today, I had a vague understanding of the concept of Augmented Reality. In my mind, the concept of AR is like the technology that is used by Tony Stark in Iron Man. The technology of using artificial intelligence to make it easier for humans lead a more convenient life. Although the existence of Jarvis in our world sounds far fetch in this era, AR has already been implemented in every way of life. One excellent example would be Pokemon Go, which became quite the phenomenon in 2016.
In a simpler word, AR is a system that includes human computer interaction which enables the overlay of virtual object to reality space. It is an amazing offspring of technology that analyzes computer to produce virtual image as an overlay to physical objects making it a suitable platform to be used in teaching students in a fun and engaging way. One of the benefits of AR is that students can learn within their own pace. This is because when given the code to the card, students can alter the learning process on their own which suits their most desirable targets. Learning using AR is also good in enhancing students' satisfication as they get to learn using interesting and interactive medias. Besides, learning using AR also improves student's long term memory because the learning process is a fun one. A fun learning process always proves to be the best method in learning because it inspires curiosity. AR is one of the tasks that is given to us, and it carries 10% for our carry mark. Honestly I was quite disheartened by this because AR is such an foreign object for me, as it seemed so hard for me to comprehend. However, after my tutorial class with Dr. Fariza, my perspective towards AR changed because I could grasp the concept after understanding it step by step with Dr.Fariza. I think AR is a futuristic step towards incorporating innovation and technology in education, and this step should be implied starting from now. This week's lecture is about incorporating gamification in classroom learning. Dr. Hafizah conducted the class very well because she made us understand a new concept that was quite foreign for some of us. Gamification can be defined as appliances of typical elements of game during classroom session as a way to to engage users in problem solving through a fun way. Gamification is an interesting way to access students' processes as it gives teachers a platform that implies the understanding of the subject in a non-standard way. However, we must bear in mind the fact that gamefication should not be used as a platform to access students' outcomes as it is a fluid method that does not guarantee a solid way of judging the student's outcomes.
Gamification has a prominent benefit in increasing motivation and ensuring students' engagement. This is because it is always conducted through competitive games that show the users' scores at the end of the session. An excellent example would be Kahoot or Quiziz, which are two of the many online games that have been incorporated in my classes during my degree year. To apply gamification in classroom session, we must understand the concept of the 5 Parts Process of Gamification. The first part is knowing the students' background, This proves to be crucial as knowing the students' background would allow us to understand the limit of their excellency in using gamification. The second part is knowing the type of interaction and where does it take place. It is crucial for educators to be decisive in how to implement gamification in classroom session. Important aspects to be considered are such as the size and setting of the class. The third part is the identification of 'pain points' or the factors that prevent learning advancement. Next is identifying the resources and last but not least, the implementation of the technique. In my personal opinion, I find gamification an interesting technique to be implemented in classroom teaching as it provides a fun way of learning for my students. However, I do have to increase my skills in gamification so that I can teach my students better. I always find myself mesmerized with how graphics are used so excellently in presenting information through multimedia. This week's lecture covers the topic of principles in design, a crucial topic for me to better use my media platform to deliver information. There is five principles of design, the first one being color and contrast. The right usage of color and how the colors are contrasted are important in attracting readers's attention to the information, besides helping them to remember better. The screenshot above is one of my favorite shots in The Shawshank Redemption movie, as it concludes the film in an analogous and complementing way. Next is repetition, where the usage of fonts and text sizes should be consistent, in order to better deliver information. Other than that is the alignment. Alignment plays an important role in ensuring audience to take note of the information delivered. Good usage of alignment can always be seen in award-winning movies, and the movie that I used as an example is Moonlight. Last but not least in principles of design is proximity which focuses on the texts that are displayed in the media. The texts should be readable, with the spaces between letters and and spacing between lines being clear as it helps readers to focus more on the information delivered.
