Today's lecture was conducted by Dr. Siti and we learned about Instructional Design. This is a new concept for me, as I have never encountered this term before in my path of becoming a teacher. An instructional design brings the meaning of central activity of teaching to help others through their instruction. This gives us the meaning of instructional designer, who is someone who carefully and thoughtfully created learning experiences. In other words, teachers are theoretically instructional designers as they create a learning experiences for their students through thought-out methods.
An easy way to apply instructional design in teaching method would be to follow the Model ID (ASSURE). 'A' stands for analyze learners as this is very important because we need to know our students' sociogeographic and access to technology. 'S' stands for state objectives. Objectives are very important in making it clear to us in what way do we want to conduct the class. 'S' also stands for select media. After getting to know our students better and be sure of our objectives, we should pick a media that is suitable to be used as teaching method in the classroom. Meanwhile 'U' stands for utilise materials. This aspect is very important because the materials that are needed should be enough for the learning process to be able to be held. Moving on to 'R', which stands for Require performance. This is the stage where we conduct our learning process for the students based on the previous letters. Last but not least, 'E', which stands for Evaluate and revise. After the learning process has been conducted, it is crucial for teachers to reflect and evaluate of what could be made better. In my opinion, I think the lesson that was taught today was crucial for me to understand the concept as it could help me to better understand my students, thus bringing the best methods to help clear their path of getting their cups of knowledge fulfilled.
